[Advice to Faculty of the School of Medicine (through Divisional Chair Jeffrey Gibeling) on 3/27/2001]

Academic Senate Regulations ASR 778 and 780 establish the procedures for any change in grading systems from the default system that they define.  All changes in grading systems must go to the University Committee on Rules and Jurisdiction and to the University Committee on Educational Policy (the Davis Divisional Committees may give friendly advice, but the authority resides in the systemwide committees).  And any change must be approved by the Representative Assembly.  We can find no basis for any exemption from these requirements for the Medical School or other professional schools.
