Final Examinations Shorter Than Two Hours

[Advice to Arnold Sillman, Chair of the Committee on Courses of Instruction 4/25/2006]

Advised that, as long as the exam is administered within the time window published in the Class Schedule, an exam scheduled to be less than two hours in length is in compliance with Senate Regulations.  Davis Division Regulation 538(B) and Senate Regulation 772(A) only specify that the final may not exceed three hours, and the exam must fall within the published time window.  (CERJ suggested that, to avoid any confusion, the instructor start the exam at the beginning of the published 2-hour window and announce the duration of the exam well in advance.)
