MEMBERS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY
RE: June 5, 2001 Meeting
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to forward the call for the next regular meeting of the
Representative Assembly scheduled for Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 3:30 in
MUII. This call will also be posted on the Academic Senate web site (http://academicsenate.ucdavis.edu/RA060501mtgcall.htm).
Individuals may request a paper copy of the agenda from the Academic Senate
Office (2-2231).
As you know, this will be the final regular meeting of the Representative
Assembly for the 2000-2001 academic year. Most standing committees of the
Division are required to file their annual reports for presentation at this
meeting; these are appended to the meeting call. Of special note is the
report of the Committee on Distinguished Teaching Awards and the announcement
of this year’s award recipients. As always, it will be a pleasure to
recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our colleagues. In addition,
the Committee on Committees will present their nominations for committee
members and chairs for the 2001-2002 academic year. This report requires
approval of the Assembly in order for the Senate to conduct business in the
normal manner next Fall.
Finally, there are a number of legislative actions on which the Assembly is
being asked to act. The Committee on Elections, Rules and Jurisdiction
has recommended some technical changes to Bylaw 39 to facilitate election of
members to the Committee on Committees. The School of Medicine is
requesting approval of a change to their grading system from letter grades to
honors/pass/fail. This change would bring them into alignment with the
other medical schools in the UC system. The Committee on Educational Policy
has requested a change in Regulation 532 to permit students to earn a maximum
of 15 units in internships per quarter (now capped at 12). In addition,
the Assembly is being asked by petition from Professor Robert Redinbo to
consider revising Regulation 538 to permit midterm examinations to be scheduled
outside of regular class times. If necessary, we may also continue
discussion of the proposed changes to the academic personnel process from the
Special Meeting of the Assembly scheduled for May 24th.
As the academic year draws to a close, I want to thank each of you for your
contributions to the work of the Academic Senate this year. I also want
to remind you that your participation in Representative Assembly meetings is
vital to the ability of the Senate to function, and I look forward to seeing
you at the meeting.
Sincerely,
JEFFERY
C. GIBELING, Chair
Davis Division of the Academic
Senate
