JUSTIFICATION:
This change applies to students who take full-quarter internships, e.g. at the UC Washington Center. The intent of this change is to make the limitation on credit for internship and special studies courses consistent with the expectation that students will maintain an average of 15 units per quarter for normal progress (A552(A)). The limitation of 12 units per quarter is inconsistent with the new minimum progress requirement (although not technically impossible, since a student could remain above minimum progress by taking extra units in the quarters before and after the internship quarter). As a precedent, DDR 533 states that “A student registered in the Independent Study Program may enroll for a maximum of 15 units of special study courses in one quarter.”
Respectfully submitted,
Terence Murphy, Chair
