Report of the Elections, Rules & Jurisdiction Committee
TO: The Representative Assembly of the Davis Division of the Academic Senate
At the June 6, 2000 Representative Assembly meeting, amendments to Bylaws 38 and 39 to increase the membership, term of office and timing of the election of the Committee on Committees were approved. It was agreed that the transition process of adding three additional members and increasing the term of office from two years to three years would be worked out by the Elections, Rules and Jurisdiction Committee, in consultation with the Committee on Committees, and reported to the Representative Assembly in the Fall. A new Section C was added to Bylaw 39. Election and Term of Office to accommodate this transition process. It appears below for the information of the Representative Assembly:
(C) Section (B) of this bylaw takes effect on September 1, 2000. In order to make a smooth transition from the old procedures in effect before that date to the new procedures, the Secretary shall initiate a special election during the third week of October 2000 to elect three members who shall serve terms that shall begin immediately after their election has been determined by the Committee on Elections, Rules and Jurisdiction and shall end immediately after the results of the election initiated in March 2003 are determined. The terms of those members due to expire under the old procedure after the election that would have been initiated in October 2000 shall serve an extended term to end immediately after results of the election initiated in March 2001 are determined. The term of those members due to expire under the old procedure after the election that would have been initiated in October 2001 shall serve an extended term to end immediately after results of the election initiated in March 2002 are determined. This section may be removed from the Bylaws of the Davis Division when it becomes moot after the election initiated in March 2003.
Respectfully submitted
