UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA DAVIS ACADEMIC SENATE
February 14, 2001
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS, RULES AND JURISDICTION
TO: All members of the Davis Division of the Academic Senate
The Call for Nominations for membership on the Committee on Committees (2001-2003) resulted in three nominations. The number of places to be filled was three positions. Therefore according to the Bylaws, the election by postal ballot was omitted and all three nominees were declared elected. The results are being reported to the members of the Academic Senate for information. In addition, the Representative Assembly will be asked, at the April meeting to ratify this action and to instruct the Secretary of the Davis Division to declare all nominees officially elected.
The three nominees elected were:
Susan Kaiser, Textiles and Clothing
Richard Lander, Physics
Marion Miller, Environmental Toxicology
For your
information, at the June 6, 2000 meeting of the Representative Assembly the
Bylaws for the Committee on Committees were amended to add three additional
members (from 6 to 9) and the terms were extended from two years to three. In order to make a smooth transition from
the old procedures to the new procedures, the Secretary was instructed to
initiate a special election during the third week of October 2000 to elect
three members whose terms were to begin immediately after their election was
determined by the Committee on Elections, Rules and Jurisdiction and to serve
until August 2003. Since the postal
ballot was omitted, the three above named nominees were declared elected. Under the old procedures, the terms of those
members due to expire under the old procedures (after the October election)
were extended to end immediately after results of the election initiated in
March 2001 are determined. Those
members are William Casey (Land, Air and Water Resources), Douglas C. Nelson
(Microbiology/DBS) and Judith S. Stern (Nutrition). The terms of those members due to expire under the old procedures
after the election that would have been initiated in October 2001 were also
extended and will end immediately after results of the election initiated in
March 2002 are determined. Those
members are: Ronald Hedrick, (Medicine
and Epidemiology:VM), Judith Newton (Women and Gender Studies) and Jessica Utts
(Statistics). This transition period
will end after the election initiated in March 2003 and members will serve
three year terms.
