ANNUAL REPORT OF THE

COMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC PLANNING & BUDGET REVIEW

 

To:       The Representative Assembly of the Davis Division of the Academic Senate

 

CAPBR will have met eleven times by the end of the 2000-01 academic year.  To date, we have reviewed 7 proposed TOE appointments and 5 proposed POP appointments.  We have also reviewed 1 proposal for an endowed chair, 2 for endowed professorships and 1 for an advocacy chair. 

 

In addition to these matters, CAPBR discussed and provided recommendations on the following items that were self-generated or referred to it:

 

·         Biostatistics-Proposal for a New Graduate Group and M.S. and Ph.D. Degree

·         Forensic Science-Proposal for a New Graduate Group

·         Viticulture & Enology - Proposal for a New Graduate Group and M.S. Degree

·         Proposed Name Changes for the Following:

1.       Exercise Science Degree

2.       UC Davis Diabetes Center

3.       Biochemistry Degree Program

4.       Psychiatry Department

5.       Mexican-American B.A. Degree Program

·         Additional Funding for Undergraduate Education Proposal

·         Principles for Emerging Systems of Scholarly Publishing

·         New ORU - UC Davis Health System Cancer Center

·         Research Initiatives for Inclusion in the 2002-03 Regents Budget

·         Expanded Summer Program Fee Structure

·         Large Lecture Classes at Varsity Theater

·         Reconstitution of the Division of Education

·         Increase in the Fraction of Clinical X Faculty

·         GSE Proposal

·         Government Travel Discounts

·         Public Health Master

·         Capstone Report: Academic Plan for UC Davis 2000-06

 

In November, CAPBR held its second annual retreat with Provost Grey and Resource Management and Planning administrators.  Discussion items included the LRDP process, capital and academic planning update, campus operating budget, update on administrative/academic support planning.  This retreat clarified many issues regarding both operating and capital budgets.  CAPBR also participated in interviews and provided input for the hiring of the new Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.

 

The committee was increased by three members for a total membership of 10.
